Farm Update

Farm Update

We are excited to begin a new year! The first few weeks in January are always full of planning and meetings as we launch into a new year and all that it holds.

There have been some challenges the past couple of weeks. Just a reminder that farming is a continual learning process!
Cows being delivered to a homestead in North Carolina! We are enjoying these new opportunities to provide cows to others.
17 inches of beautiful snow covered the farm the week before Christmas. We all enjoyed sledding, snow ball fights, and the beauty. But it definitely does make things harder for the animals and farm chores!

Farm Girl Note: Winter on the Farm

Farm Girl Note: Winter on the Farm

The end of last year brought the wedding of Josh our farm manager who was married to Maddie. An exciting feat for the whole family and Maddie (Wilson) has already made a wonderful addition to the farm and family! The holiday was a busy and good time and now here we are in 2018!

The first week of the year brought frigid weather to our area. Temps were down to almost zero in the night and morning when we did chores. The animals as well as the people had to work hard to stay warm, and survive the unusual cold front! Every water line and animal watering trough would be frozen up in minutes! Our new year’s annual planning meetings were held and exciting hopes for this year were discussed. We are excited to see what the Lord has in store for 2018 and are also thankful to be back to more normal weather as well! 😊

Little guy born into 3 degree weather!

About Our Puppies:

A Lab Puppy from Our Father’s Farm is a friend you will cherish for years. Labrador Retrievers have an enduring reputation for gentle temperament, ease of handling and training, intelligence and loyalty. They are truly the perfect family pet!

We breed for quality in health and not quantity of puppies.

We raise our dogs and allow them to have puppies because we love and need them and want to share them with others. Dogs raised in a loving environment, well socialized with all ages of people and animals are rare today. Another wonderful thing is that our puppies stay with their mothers for at least 8 weeks of nursing. Their weaning process starts naturally using raw cows milk, meat, eggs and other of our beyond organic fresh farm foods. Our local vet does our new puppy checks and says that they are some of the healthiest pets she has ever seen.  Another customer commented, a year after purchasing one of our pups,  that a friend of his had a lab the same age which had been dealing with all kinds of health issues, but his puppy was in perfect health.    It is well known that the diet and upbringing any creature experiences from birth through childhood makes a life time difference in the health and immune system of the adult! We believe this very strongly and at Our Father’s Farm we seek to mimic the way things were divinely designed to function. We have been doing what we do for almost 7 years now and have seen the fruit of hard labor again and again as we observe and enjoy superior health in the animals on the farm.

Great Pyrenees Livestock guardian dogs:

A great Pyrenees puppy from Our Father’s Farm will help you in many ways! We had major trouble with predators attacking our flocks of chickens, but when we got our Great Pyrenees dog everything changed! They are loyal to the herd and the family and offer superior protection. They love the work too! Our Pyrenees puppies are placed out with the flock of chickens with their mom at an early age. They bond to whatever animal or people they grow up with during their first year of life.   It’s ingrained in their nature to protect their flock or herd, this early conditioning makes them the perfect livestock guardian dog for any animal or family! They earn their keep!

Thanks to our loyal sweet friendly and protective dogs “Bear”, “Bella”, and “Bonnie”  we have had hardly any attacks on our chickens and turkeys.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Dogs:

The answer to this question makes our puppies among the best and healthiest you can find.  Our puppies are able to nurse their mother until you adopt them.  When other foods are introduced we feed them our very own “beyond organic” products from our own farm.  These include:  RAW cow’s milk from grass fed cows,  raw non GMO, non soy chicken and grass fed beef.  If necessary they are fed a dry grain free food.

They live in a large pen with a large dog shed connected to it, we let them out to play with us either a few at a time or all every day.  As they grow older they spend time with the other animals and are able to run around the farm.

They live with their mother the full 8 weeks (some choose to get their pups at 6 weeks). Mamma usually begins weaning them starting at 6 weeks.  They drink less and less from her as they get older and are usually fully weaned between 7 and 8 weeks.

Yes, they go to the vet for their Puppy wellness check up.  They are also given their first round of Shots and wormed .  Our vet (in Chatham, VA) raves about the wonderful health, beautiful teeth, and good temperaments of our litters.  We attribute this to the wonderful diet of mother and babies, and the healthy, active lifestyle they enjoy.

We have a large family with babies all the way up to our 89 year old grandmother.  The puppies are very well socialized with people, cats, other dogs (we also have livestock guardian dogs), and other farm animals.  The puppies live with each other and often socialize and play with the children and our other animals on the farm such as, cats, cows, chickens other dogs and more! Also our family of 9 children from ages 20-2  are often with them playing!

It is common for all puppies to be a little lonely at first. They may whine when they are alone at night but this will soon change as they get used to you and your schedule.

More Information:

All the puppies will either have CKC (Daisy) or ACK (Rosy)  registration depending on the mother. The puppies will have nice even temperament’s and there parents have beautiful glossy coats. Expect these puppies to reach mature size around the 60-75 lb. range.
